I’m not a regular reader of blogs, but periodically I review that category on the sites I feel support me as an author. I generally look for articles that help to improve my writing. Such was the case when I perused Southern Writers Magazine a few days ago and came across, Changing the Voices by Becky Villareal.

You might think me as foolish for admitting this, but I was surprised to learn I had text-to-speech capability on Microsoft Word. I eagerly tried it out on a few of my short stories and, like Becky, found mistakes that I previously did not notice. Granted, it reads in a very simplistic manner, but hearing my words rather than reading them myself made a difference. To be sure, the speech is not sophisticated enough to be used for an audio book, but I think it can be a useful tool for aspiring writers like me.
